Fridy, May 10, 2019

Dear Colleagues,

It’s the end of a hot hot HOT week in the elementary. We appreciate everyone’s adaptability to the changing temperatures and the pulse around the school. Tonight at Kipling we will farewell our departing faculty at a new tradition:  the Farewell Toast. Don’t worry, the whole faculty will have a chance to celebrate the accomplishments and service of your departing colleagues at the end of the year assembly, but until then, I know you join me in wishing them all the best.

Thank Yous
  • From Andrew H: Cheers to the Grade 2 team for joining me for Tuesdays in the Courtyard and to Ula for elevating a conversation about how we help each other understand the East Asian cultures that are an integral part of our community. Please pass along!
  • Thank you to everyone for your patience and doing your indoor recess duty.
  • Thank you Bindu, Morgen, and Jet for your wonderful contributions to the Futures Planning.
  • Thank you to Angie, Shoba, Gio for joining the middle school swimmers in Delhi.
  • Thank you to EVERYONE who has written report cards, edited report cards, or will do so shortly.  We appreciate this important work of providing feedback to students and parents.
  • Cheers to Grade 4 and Grade 2 Teams for rolling with the punches of absences.  You leveled up again this week on flexibility and interdependence.
  • A WOOHOO and BIG thanks to Jen & Clinton for running Grade2 STEM Classes and prepping it all. Students are super excited!

End of Year Checkout
Every teacher needs to have the items of this form checked off and signed by the appropriate person before leaving for the end of year. On Saturday 2nd June, the final step, the physical room sign off will also happen. This will happen in your physical space with the check out supervisor looking to see the room is packed and ready for summer cleaning. This will look different in different spaces!

  • If you are moving spaces, or having your classroom renovated, EVERYTHING needs to be in boxes, labelled with your (new) room number, name, and grade/department.
  • In all rooms, EVERYTHING must be removed from bulletin boards, walls
  • All classroom resources remaining in the classrooms should be neatly stored in a manner that allows the shelves and classroom to be thoroughly cleaned.
  • Remember we have Saturday 2nd June as a working day to complete any packing, as well as check out
  • Sign out sheet can start to be filled out as items are completed (except room sign off which can only happen Saturday 1st June)

Lost and Found Items Display
Students and Staff please check the Lost and Found Items which are displayed near the Main Reception opposite the BBT. For any electronic Items, Watches, Purses etc, please check with Ms. Sonia David in the Main Reception. Unclaimed items will be donated during the Summer Break.

Vision Project Field Trips
This Wednesday we used a tuning protocol to refine our Vision Projects. There were lots of great ideas for project improvements and fresh ideas came up about field trips. Project leaders, please add details about your field trip wishes here so we can begin to manage the budgeting costs, map out what the week might look like and coordinate with transportation. (Note: field trips are one way to make PBL authentic - not an expectation, and we may not be able to accomodate all field trips). We will use some time during AFO to continue our work on Vision Project and welcome in the new colleagues.

Indoor Recess Reminder
Thank you to all of those who have been on indoor recess duty. We want to emphasize the importance of teachers getting a lunch break and not accidentally ending up on duty in their own classrooms. To that end, when you have a lunch duty, please
  • Check in with the teachers in both triad and let them know you’re on duty
  • Ask them
Swimmers take flight
Please note that due to various flight times, many of our Raptors Swim Club Swimmers from Grade 2 and up will be out of class on next Friday, May 17 for Stonehill Super Splash swim meet. Wish them good luck as they fly off to represent the Raptors.

End of Year Concert rehearsal schedule and concert schedule
This year there will be a special music and dance EOY concert. Because of the high school graduation, we will only have short rehearsals the week before the concert. The intent of those rehearsals will be to familiarize the students with entering the stage, assigning positions for their grade level performance and exiting the stage. We really need your kind attention to the info below especially regarding timings. Thank you for your help and promptness!

Dancer Rehearsal
For this concert, the dancing will be provided by the ASA Raptor Dance Troupe. Vanessa will be the sponsoring these students, who will be rehearsing at the following times:
·         During their normal ASA time
·         Monday May 27 during first recess
·         Wednesday May 29 during first recess

For EY-1:
·  Please bring the students into the auditorium in TALL to SHORT order. They will be in assigned seats according to class.
·  There will be a seating map provided to the classrooms.
·  Please be in the seats at the assigned start time.
For GR 2, 3, 4: As usual, please bring the students into the auditorium in TALL to SHORT order. For this concert all the students will be given assigned seats in the auditorium.
·  They will enter the stage and return from the stage to those same seats.
·  A seating map and staging map will be provided to each classroom.
·  The most difficult part of this rehearsal is the timing. Please be in your assigned seats at the rehearsal time assigned to your class.
·  Leave enough walking time prior to your call time to get to the FAC and settled so we can begin promptly at the start time.
·  For the performance, please have the students in their seats ready to start at 1:20. This will give enough time for a water and bathroom break if needed before the start of the concert.
·  GRADES 3 AND 4: the performances will feature recorder playing. Each student must bring their recorder with them. Playing in the halls, outside or in the auditorium is not allowed unless performing.
After this concert, there will be class parties! YAY!!
Thank you in advance for your help.
Sarah, Finny and Vasanth

Reminiscing on School Year 2018-19
As our school year starts to come to a close, we on the Elementary Leadership Team begin to wax reflective about the wonderful year of learning and growth that we have all experienced. We appreciate our teachers’ hard work, our parents’ openness and collaboration, and our students’ bright sparks and enthusiasm for learning, sometimes through productive struggle. For the last few blogs of the year, we’ll share a few highlights from the #aiscelementary Twitter feed. Here’s to a wonderful end to a wonderful year.  Thank you for being a part of our #aiscelementary community.

We are also sharing this to parents in the Principal’s Notes. Please consider popping your inspiring pics onto Twitter so that we can share them! :)

Summer Maintenance Requests (repeat)
For any minor painting, specific cleaning, small maintenance tasks you may need done in your classrooms (not specialist rooms), please enter them on this sheet before May 10. Following May 10, Keryn and Dave will meet with the maintenance team to confirm and approve these requests.

Year Planner Order (repeat)
If you use the printed year planner and would like to order another one for next year, please list your name here. We will only order as required.

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,
Keryn, Dave, and Calley
