Q12 Fall Survey
Next week during our AFO, we will take the Q12 engagement survey. As this is a goal to focus on as a school, we thought we would share again our target numbers to get in the three areas we were focusing on.
As a leadership team, our ask towards helping enhance engagement that we are working on include
  • Create opportunities to offer more input: faculty forum, feedback surveys
  • Leave positive notes or feedback after classroom visits
  • Providing clarity on expectations both in person and on our blog
As you take the survey, consider both how we (leadership) are doing on the above, how you (faculty) are helping others, and how you (individual) are helping yourself  - and where we had hoped to be at by fall by looking at the table below. Reach out to us if you have any specific feedback. We GENUINELY would love to hear this!

Indoor Recess Schedule
Knowing that we are into the monsoon season, we are likely to have many rainy days ahead. If you have any thoughts or enhancements to the Indoor Recess Schedule, please let Dave know.

MS Play next week
Shivers takes one of the lesser known tales from the Brothers Grimm and turns it on its head. A young woman named Roberta is strangely different from everyone else in that she was born without the ability to feel afraid. So, she sets out on a journey to discover the meaning of fear. On the way she encounters all kinds of zany, spooky characters and, in typical happily-ever-after fashion, ends up freeing the world’s most haunted castle from its curse.

CIC Late Notices
The library has restarted the practice of sending automated emails to teachers and parents regarding their students' overdue library materials. If you have not received anything from the library, or have received multiple emails, please inform Babs.

Grade 3-5 Learning Celebration - Friday, November 1
Next Friday for Grade 3-5 students in the FAC. Please be seated by 2:43 p.m. We appreciate you being on time so we can begin on time.

Faculty Forum (repeat announcement)
Our next faculty forum on Thursday, October 31st will focus on ‘solution thinking’ to help support teachers during times on our calendar which may feel busier than others. We will come together to learn from one another how different strategies may be implemented to help reduce the feeling of becoming overwhelmed and supporting each other through busy times. This will not be a decision making forum, and it also will not be time to vent about ‘busyness’ but instead focus on strategies of support.

ES Parent Coffee on Tuesday, October 29th - Seesaw and MAP Test Scores (repeat announcement)
On Tuesday, October 29, from 8:45-9:45 a.m. in the Madras Hall we will host a parent coffee on using Seesaw and understanding MAP testing and results. Sherriden Masters, Director of Technologies and Innovation, will join us to explain  MAP test scores and how to understand your child’s results. Following the parent coffee, parents of Grades 2-5 who took the fall MAP tests will receive an email with their child’s MAP test scores.

Halloween 2019 (repeat announcement)
The Halloween parade will occur during our last period of the day on Oct 31 starting at 2:45 p.m. The students will parade around the track with parents on the field. Grade levels will follow in order from EY to Grade 5. Four trick or treating stations will be set up on the track. When students have paraded once around the track they will return to their classroom parties. In case of rain, we have a contingency plan in place.

And the Twitter Award goes to…. Ula!
Happy Diwali and enjoy your long weekend!

Friday, October 18, 2019

Dear all,

Another great week in the elementary. I was able to be out at the end of this week to watch our AISC Raptor swimmers at SAISA in Kathmandu. I also got a chance to work with the ES principal and tour their elementary classrooms. As always, visiting another school gives great perspective and offers the opportunity to see new ideas, as well as share the good work happening in our section. I felt there was so much I could share and that is thanks to all of you!

Thank yous & shout outs!
  • Shout out to Preethi! It was so great to collaborate with you on India Month design this week. - Jen & Clinton
  • Babs and Teena for coordinating all the conferences supervision in the CIC
  • All homeroom and EAL teachers who prepared so thoroughly for the conferences - we had feedback from one parent saying he was “so impressed with the thoughtful and thorough preparation to the point where my child could comfortably talk about everything”
  • Thank you to Jen and Clinton for creating innovative "Indian" design challenges for India Month
  • Amritha, Thank you for your flexibility and willingness to help out as needed - whenever and wherever - and especially during iTime! You are appreciated. From, Grade 2

Save the date! You are invited to participate in HS IB Psychology Experiment Event
Date: Monday, October 21st
Time: 3:45-4:45 (or whenever you have had enough)
Location: HS Social Studies/English classrooms (second floor, straight after the HS office, rooms face onto the pool)

For the internal assessment for IB Psychology, students must replicate a peer reviewed, published study with participants over the age of 16. Each group needs at least 20 volunteers. Please join us, and bring some friends, for a Psychology Experiment Event!  This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes of your time and will be a whole lotta fun! You can participate in as many different experiments as you would like to be involved in (there are 3 being run). Each group will be using a classroom as their “lab”; they will conduct the experiment a few different times to ensure enough (and appropriate) data for their experiment.
