Friday, March 4, 2022

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Babs and Teena for organizing an engaging, educational, and fun Litweek. The students loved the author visits, the activities each day, the masked reader, door decorations, and the character dress up day (just to name a few). We know the author visit planning begins a year in advance and we are so thankful to the two of you for putting together these meaningful events to support the love of reading.

We know many other faculty were involved in LItweek as well. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, led an activity, and helped with the various preparations for the amazing week.

Common Area Expectations

With our transition back to campus in the fall and again after winter break, the students overall have done well following many of our common area expectations. As more pre-COVID routines fall into place, we are sharing a matrix that was created by faculty prior to COVID that may help to provide more clarity during supervision and to review with students who need a reminder about expectations in common areas.

March 21st PD Day Session Sign-ups

Don’t forget to sign up for a session.

Recess Clubs

Please let the office know if you are starting a recess club. We have created a Recess Clubs tab in the Master Schedule so you can inform your students about the different clubs that are occurring during the week. One club that just started is Open Dance and Gymnastics with Jane on Wednesdays and Friday during G3-G5 lunch recess. Another club starting after spring break is Board Games with John on Wednesdays during snack recess.

Puzzles in the Library is Monday to Friday during G3-G5 Lunch Recess - 12:25-12:48.

From the OTL

To support our collective work to build a guaranteed, viable, and dynamic curriculum, beginning next year we will utilize Toddle Planning Pro for our curriculum database. Toddle will replace Atlas and become the primary location for unit design and documentation. People who have been auditioning Toddle have found it to be intuitive, engaging, modern, and clean. It is customizable to meet our needs and supports collaboration. Here are a few snapshots of the interface. Please take a look!

To make this transition smooth and efficient, Toddle will manage the migration of unit plans and supporting resources from Drive. Details, including our timeline and how we will organize documents for transfer, will be shared after spring break. We are confident that using Toddle effectively will provide increased clarity and coherence moving forward.

2022-2023 Social Buddies!

Did you have a good transition to AISC? If so, this is your chance to pay it forward!  We are looking for social buddies for the incoming new teaching class.

What does being a social buddy entail?

Duties include:

  • Corresponding with their assigned new teacher - virtual introduction before May 15

  • Offering to Zoom/email over the summer to answer last minute questions and give packing tips.

  • Coordinating shopping with lunch or dinner on Saturday, July 23rd and, if the new person is interested, on Sunday, July 24th.

  • Act as the new teacher’s “go-to” person for non-academic matters throughout the year

  • Be a cheerleader for India, Chennai, and AISC!

While there is no compensation for coming forward to be a buddy, you will receive the unending thanks of the new person (or people) you befriend and our eternal gratitude!  And, of course, we will cover the cost of any meals you have with your new buddy.

LT4 will pair up existing teachers with new teachers based on neighborhood, the similarity of family configuration and possible shared interests. Interested? Please email Joelle Basnight by March 25th.
