Dear all,

Lots of great spirit in the ES this week! Thank you to everyone who got into the ‘spirit’ of things and dressed up on all or various days - this was really appreciated, especially by our students.

Thank yous and shout outs
  • Big thank you to Kay, Mary Kelly, Lucy, Fer, Leontheen, Rebecca, Fletch, Julia, Sobha, Finny, Sarah, Alex, Becky, Ross, Vanessa for attending our second faculty forum on Seesaw (decisions below!)
  • Thank you to Bindu, Fer, Sruthi, Leontheen, Julia and Sarah for getting our faculty forum conversations started digitally.
  • Alex and Sarah would like to thank the G5 team for their amazing work this week for the CTC modeling cycle! Your feedback and commitment to doing what's best is to the moon! (And thank you ES Coaches for covering some classes!)
Please remember that you are invited to send your “cheers for peers” to be included in our Thanks Yous and Shout Outs.

Seesaw Faculty Forum
Thanks to all who came to our second faculty form. Decisions were made regarding Seesaw expectations - these are final and are listed below:
  1. Team seesaw expectations need to be written about frequency of both portfolio posts and of journal (class work) posts). Portfolio post frequencies must be agreed upon, whilst class work journal posts can be a range - e.g., 1-3 per week or 5-8 per week. Once both these frequencies are agreed on, please add to team agreements.
  2. EAL co teachers and homeroom teachers function as one in terms of posts (both teacher and student) coming from the homeroom classes - no need to make separate posts.
  3. EWL courses operate as a specialist class with the same expectations as specialist teachers; teacher posts at beginning of unit and student posts at start and end of units, with reflections.
  4. ES leadership will draft criteria for a portfolio post that will be confirmed via Grade team leaders within the next couple of weeks.
  5. Home learning can be posted to Seesaw.  However, parents will not post other things directly to Seesaw. For this year, Seesaw will be for classroom learning purposes only. If a child does something at home that they want to share, they can bring it into the classroom and create a post.

Progress Report
These report cards will communicate progress around our learning habits as well as one Personal/Social/Emotional (PSE) narrative comment. This comment should focus on transitions to the new grade/class/school, relationships formed, learning habits and choices being made and as much as possible use the language from the AISC Vision of a learner.

A reminder of deadlines for these as well as proofreaders can be found below. Here is the report card writing style guide for your easy access. If you would prefer to send a sample PSE narrative comment to your proofreader for helpful feedback, please do so well in advance of the deadline!

** Here is the video on how to enter grades and comments on progress report.
India Month Rehearsals and Run-Through
The FAC rehearsals for the India Month performances spans between September 16 - September 25. All the performances will have 2 - 3 rehearsals.
Please note, on September 25th (Wednesday), we will have a final run-through of both the assemblies. As scheduled for the main event, we will wrap up in 45 minutes (less than 45 minutes in this case, as there will be no lighting of Diya and the Teachers dance).
Upper Elementary- 9:05 - 9:45 a.m
Lower Elementary- 10:55 - 11:35 a.m
During this run-through time, we will familiarise our students with our expectations at the FAC with their specific grade-wise entry, seating, waiting backstage, performance and exit. Our student MCs' will also get a chance to practice their respective parts with the flow of the events. I will also communicate the specific instructions for lights, sound, curtain cues and usage of risers for every performance to the theatre manager.
So we will be ready for our India Month Assemblies on September 26th and 27th!
During these times, the students must be accompanied by a teacher (HR/EAL/Specialist) AND by the Teaching Assistant.

From the CIC
In order for you to access your own library Destiny account, you will need to login. The library can set this up for everyone, but it needs to be done in person and it takes approximately 10 seconds. If you would like access to your own account (you can see what books you have checked out, which are overdue, etc) AND MOST EXCITINGLY, PUT YOUR OWN BOOKS ON HOLD, please pop by and talk to Babs, Teena, or Jyothi. They can get you set up straight away!

ES Principal Finalist Visit
Mark your calendars for two opportunities to interact with the finalists for the ES Principal position during their visit on September 16th and 17th

First, there will be a Meet and Greet in the Unity Courtyard on the morning of Monday, September 16 for faculty. Second, Monday after school in the Madras Hall, you are invited to come meet the candidates, listen to their responses to questions, and provide digital feedback.  Please carry your device to give feedback at the end of this session.

Faculty make great recruiters of candidates when they are energized, engaged, and reflect positively about our school, please join us! If you would like to learn more about the candidates, their applications are on reserve in the ES library. Ask a librarian, and you can review the applications in the library. You can also view them on Powerschool Staff Portal.

In addition, candidates may be walking around during recess or lunch as well as visiting classrooms during the two days. We look forward to welcoming the candidates to our school and learning more about them during their visit.
