Dear everyone,

Thank you for another busy week for our students!

Thank yous to:
  • Rachael and Hilary for leading Wednesday’s C3 session on questions
  • Becky for doing TA training (for grades 3-5) on number corner
  • The students and teachers in 3B, 4D and 5A for sharing at this morning’s learning celebration
  • Scott and Tiffany’s 3rd Grade classes for their compelling recess persuasive speech & for counselors and coaches stepping up to supervise
  • The second grade team and specialists for the incredible amount of work that went into today’s Mela! It was a full event highlighting the many skills and talents of our children.
  • Morgen, Nicole, Jet, & Karen for participating in the Strategic Planning this week
  • Priya for overseeing Ishmudin’s visit into many ES classes as part of RISE last week
  • And a heartfelt congratulations to new nana, Cheryl, and new mom, Beverly. Mom and Nathan are home and doing well.

Revising Report Cards
As we need to write new standards for social studies to align with C3, feedback from many teachers show examining report standards other subject areas would benefit from some revision. We would ideally like 3-4 teachers to revise at these with us. Please write to Keryn if you are interested.

Writing Workshop Commitments
For those who didn’t quite finish the commitments to WW in our Faculty Meeting, please find time in a planning meeting next week to complete this. We will summarise these into our whole section commitments next week.

Japanese School
FYI - We have reached a decision with the Japanese school that some 3-5 students will be able to walk to Japanese school unaccompanied. This is an exception and will happen rarely, eg. if parents travelling or sick. Younger students will have the option of being collected by a rep from the Japanese school. Any parent using this service will contact homeroom teachers directly and cc the office.

SLCs
As you prepare for SLCs, here is a link to the passport that was shared at our March sectional meeting. Feel free to modify it to meet the needs of your grade level.

PG&E sign ups
The time has come to complete your PG&E paperwork for the year and have a final reflection meeting on your goals with Keryn or Lori. Please submit your PG&E from with reflection on selected goals 2 days before your meeting. Those on self-assessment need to submit this form as well as their blog link. Please contact Hazel and Cheryl to make the appointments. All meetings should take place before Friday May 5th.

Social Studies Unit Development
Two rounds of unit development will happen between now and the end of the year. The first round will be facilitated by Rachael and Hilary (with the exception of grade 2 as their units remained relatively similar to the current ones) and the work with returning teachers begins next week. You should have received calendar invites already, but the full schedule (should you wish to see it) is here.

The next round of unit develop will occur with Tania later this month.

Lower ES Swim Gala
Will be held at the pool on Thursday, April 13. K-2 teachers and TAs, see this link for very important details about the event. Check with Donna if you have any questions.
*Note that KGA will miss art and KGC will miss Indian Studies.

MAP Testing
MAP testing begins next week and the schedule can be accessed here.

Please spend a few minutes making sure you have your log in information and reviewing the start-up procedures prior to your first test; all of the resources are linked below. If you need a review or have any questions, see Lori.

IT staff will be on hand with extra devices and troubleshooting assistance every testing day by 8:45. If you plan to test later in the day, please let Lori and Priya know.

The tests for this week will be
MAP: Reading 2-5 Common Core 2010 V2
MAP: Language 2-12 Common Core 2010

MAP Resources:
Step by step instructions (You may want to print this page for easy reference.)
Student instruction page (You may want to print this page for easy reference.)

Remember that you can monitor which question number students are on and can offer encouragement to either ‘slow down and do your best’ or ‘make your best guess and move on’ if students are moving particularly quickly or slowly.

Karen has already communicated the names of new EAL students who are exempt from testing; if you haven’t heard from her, assume that everyone is writing the test. As always, though, if testing seems to be causing undue emotional stress, please see Karen and Lori on a case-by-case basis.

Have a great weekend!

Keryn and Lori
