Happy Spring Break everyone!  We wish you all a refreshing, relaxing and wonderful spring break wherever you may be.  We look forward to a busy and productive last quarter together.  Thank you all for your sense of commitment and integrity as we return into what often becomes a downhill sprint to summer, with many many exciting events happening both in and out of school.

Thank yous…
  • Rachael and Hilary for leading us in understanding C3 Social Studies Standards
  • Meg and Ron for presenting out on Student Protection to parents
  • Babs, Jyotsna and Tiffany & their classes for a great learning celebration today
  • Tiffany and her class for presenting a very persuasive speech about extra recess to ES Admin
  • Kelly and Salone for amazing preparation of Gr5 students for the NESA Virtual Science Fair
  • Amy, Lily and Vigna for all their work on the Outdoor Early Learning Center - we are signed off by the architects!
  • All PK - Grade 1 teachers for all their input into the Classrooms of the Future project - at the time of press, we are almost signed off….(!)

Change of Name
You will soon hear and notice a name change of current PK and KG classes (for next year.)
Our 3+ will become Early Years 3
Our 4+ will become Early Years 4
Kindergarten will become Early Years 5
This is to reflect not only an intentional move towards a further play-based philosophy in these foundation years, but to also establish an Early Years identify. As we move forward, we can begin using this terminology in any documentation for the next academic year.

Monday 20th - Faculty PD Day
You can find the schedule here; time is built in for both sectional work and teamwork.  Each team has determined their own focus, and our section time will be spent unpacking part of the Q12 Gallup Survey Data, looking ahead to Student Led Conferences, and celebrating our work with Writing Workshop.

Returning HR and EAL teachers:
As you are aware, Christy Curran will be returning to work with us from Friday March 224 - Wednesday March 29.
Christy will be running one overall specific workshop PD - Monday 27th, from 3:45 - 5:00.
This is advance notice to please make yourselves available for this time, as we would ideally love all returning ES teachers to attend and receive the same PD as we try to move further towards implementing workshop with fidelity.
*HR/EAL teachers moving on from AISC also welcome!

Message From Carl
I will be away for PD from March 24th to the 27th. I will then be away again from March 30 through to April 2nd for NESA. The Discovery Studios will remain open during this time and Dilip is very happy to help your student and you out. Have a great holiday.

Hosting Visitors
On Thursday, March 23rd we will host 6-7 visiting teachers from Rajapalayam who are interested in observing our teaching pedagogies. They will primarily be visiting 3rd through 5th grade homerooms and specialist classes. No need to plan anything out of the ordinary; simply continue your normal activities and instruction.

Barcoding Project - Round 2
Last summer, a significant amount of work was done to barcode class library books. While all books (except perhaps new books this year) have been barcoded, the next phase is to “tag” books to specific grade levels. This information will help inform an audit of classroom libraries, as next year will focus on language arts.

Work in preschool through first grade will being on the Monday following spring break. Jet will work with classroom TAs, and they will have the remainder of March and April to complete the work. Doing this task now will allow the beginning of the school year to fully focusing on setting up newly renovated spaces.

Similar work will begin in grades 2-5 during All Faculty Orientation next school year.

SEVAI Day Night Owl Collection
On Friday, March 31st, we are doing our 9th Night Owl delivery! This time around, middle school students will be doing the majority of the collecting and packaging!  We are collecting empty plastic water bottles, non-perishable food, and toiletries. We encourage you to begin collecting mini-bottles of shampoo/conditioner, combs, soaps, toothbrushes, razors, etc. as you travel and stay at various hotels. You can also, make a cash donation to the cashier (please specify that is for Night Owl).
Please contact Anna Van Horn vanna@aischennai.org know if you have any questions or would like to participate in the delivery.
Thanks for your support! Our last delivery was 200 bundles! Let’s keep expanding!!

Happy Happy Spring Break Everyone!

Warmly,

Keryn & Lori
