Thursday, February 17, 2022

I’d like to welcome Sowmiya Sridhar. Sowmiya is going to be our in-house substitute. She was a substitute in the ES pre-COVID. Welcome Sowmiya!

Starting Monday, February 21st, students will be eating lunch in the two cafeterias. Yes, another new routine but one that shows we are slowly getting back to “normal.” See details below including the updated supervision schedule.

Snack and Lunch Changes KG-Grade 5

Morning Snack/Recess

KG- Grade 2 students will eat their snack in the ES cafeteria and then go out for recess.

Grade 3 - Grade 5 students will eat their snack outside. We will leave some tables set up under a tent by the ES playground for upper elementary students to eat their snack. Students can also sit at other places around the ES to eat snack. This will need to be explained to grade 3 students because this is a new routine for them.

KG - Grade 2 Lunch

We’re keeping the transition easy and mirroring the current outdoor lunch service routine inside the cafeteria.

Students will wash hands in their classroom and head to the ES cafeteria at 12:25. There will be 8 students per table (4 on each side of the table). Students will sit with their homeroom. Students who ordered school lunch can go through the food service line to pick up their lunch. Drinks and any condiments will be served at the tables. Microwaves and hot water will now be available at lunch. At 12:43, students who have finished lunch can go outside and play. The transition to recess will begin at 12:48.

**We will move the blue bins inside the cafeteria and students in KG-Grade 2 can put home lunches there.

Grade 3 Lunch

Everything is the same as KG-Grade 2 (see above) but your students have recess first and will enter the cafeteria and wash hands at 12:48. Grade 3 will be the only grade eating in the cafeteria from 12:48-1:08.

**We will move the blue bins inside the cafeteria and students in Grade 3 can put home lunches there.

Grades 4 and 5 Lunch

Your students will eat in the FAC (Fine Arts Center) cafeteria. When the bell rings at 12:48, all 4th and 5th grade students should head over to the FAC and wash their hands. Students who ordered school lunch will go through the food service line to get their food. Students who brought home lunch can choose a place to sit and begin eating. There will be desks set up in the cafeteria instead of tables to allow for distancing. At 1:08, we will dismiss students and they will head back to their class. You will need to explain this new routine on Monday. Lynn will be in the FAC on Monday to help but if you have time, feel free to come to the FAC to facilitate the new routine.

**We will move the blue bins for grades 4 and 5 to the covered area and 4th and 5th grade students can put home lunches there. Students can pick up their lunch bag before heading to the FAC.

Supervision Schedule

With the new eating areas, we needed to adjust the duty locations. Please check the updated supervision schedule

Faculty Coffee/Tea and Snacks

Starting Monday, coffee/tea and snacks will now be in Room 1618 (EY classroom closest to the ATM machine).
