Readers Wanted for ES, MS, and HS

Have you dreamed of reading a book about puberty to high schoolers? What about a hilarious picture book to enthusiastic first graders? Have you not gotten enough mask wearing lately? Then, you should sign up to be a masked reader in the library's upcoming LitWeek celebrations! You can choose a class which you have a connection to, put on your favorite identity-concealing mask, read a great picture book whilst dropping some hints about who you are, then revel in the big reveal. The read aloud will take 30 minutes or less and Babs can help in choosing a great book. Thanks for your consideration in making LitWeek 2021 a success!

Next Week is Well Week!

The intention of the week is to bring attention to wellbeing and share our experiences. For each day of the week we are in school, AISC will bring attention to one of the four domains of wellbeing.

Throughout the week AISC community members will be asked to:

Monday: Self-Awareness - How are you feeling?

Identify a color or colors that represent your emotion(s) and create a visual representation or art form of those emotions.

Tuesday: Healthy Habits - Try something new!

Select a Healthy Habit that might be new to you or that you have started this year and then share a video of yourself doing the activity or a description of the activity.

Thursday: Positive Relationships - Gratitude & Kindness

Reach out to someone and show gratitude and commit to a random act of kindness. Then, share your experiences of showing gratitude and kindness through photos, videos, or written descriptions.

Friday: Self-Management - Share your tips!

Reflect on how you manage stress, persevere through challenges, and control impulses. Then, share tips with the AISC community about your practices.

*ES community members can post in Seesaw Activities or social media #AISCWellbeing

Also, please expect a Well Week delivery package to arrive at your home on Monday afternoon.

Marking Attendance in Powerschool and Location Update

Please remember to enter attendance in Powerschool before 4  p.m. every working day. Keep Padma / Hazel informed if there is a change in location for your students. Accurate and timely data is very important for the HoS report.

Maker Carnival Friday, April 23rd

Get ready for Maker Carnival!  This year, we are hosting a virtual event on Friday, April 23rd.  There will be asynchronous videos and activities to complete throughout the day including stories, Tinkercad, cardboard games, homemade instruments and more!  In place of Closing Circle, there will be 2 live sessions for students to join from 2:30 - 3:00 and 3:00 - 3:30. Topics range from Cooking to Origami to Lego! Look for more information next week along with documents that outline sessions and materials needed. Can't wait to see all the Maker Carnival creations!

The Transition Committee would like to share the following message for Stayers:

Coaches Corner

As we get closer to the end of the year, we will be reflecting heavily on the data that we have collected and reporting on student progress. A group of teachers in Newport Beach, California have been part of an on-going study into how to most effectively utilize data all the way down to how teachers collect data. They make a case for shifting to an asset lens - to look for and build upon what students know. Here is an article called “Rehumanizing Assessment through Building Internal Capacity” which is part 3 in a series called “Humanizing Assessment” on the AchievetheCore website. What do you think about this shift in collecting data?  Hopefully, we can begin a fruitful discussion on how to best learn about and address student learning from an asset lens!

From the Counselors

Happy Friday Teachers! Your counselors are sending you lots of hugs and silliness. Here is something to make you laugh:

Baby laughing at ripping paper :)

And last but not least, a repost of some fun morning meeting activities, greetings and fun games to do with your class. We shared these back in August, but they are worth revisiting if you need something fun to spice up your last 8 weeks of school!

Virtual Morning Meeting Greetings and Activities

Have a great weekend.
