Friday, March 13, 2020

Dear all,

Thank you for your wonderful support, collaboration, patience and flexibility this last week of term as we prepare for continuity of instruction both for when we come back to school after spring break, and for if this moves to a virtual space.
Remember to continue to gather resources as you see them come in from our international colleagues and share them with your colleagues here. There are hundreds of resources being shared, and there is no point reinventing the wheel if great resources are out there!

As we all saw this week, we are currently operating within the guidelines that any non-essential events with a large gathering are currently being postponed. This week we had to postpone both the G3-5 Performing Arts Gala, the G5 sustainability rally, and the Staff appreciation parade. Lynn Scheider’s upcoming transition visit to AISC has also been postponed. We will confirm with you all when we have new dates for anything that has currently been postponed.

Thank You’s and Shout Outs…
  • Jen, Clinton, Geetha,  for helping out with the entry and exit procedures
  • Thank you to everyone who filled out their temp checks all week!
  • Priya V for working on templates for Continuity of Instruction
  • Sarah H, Jane, Anita, Julia, Shreya, Elliot, Vanessa, Becky, Salome and Alex for their flexibility in postponing events
  • Jack for efficiently managing subs, coordinating ASA changes and working so tirelessly to do so!

Taking Care of Ourselves During COVID-19
We would like to thank Nigel for sharing this incredible resource from SeaChange about how educators can take care of themselves during this outbreak. Please take the time to read this thoughtful and reassuring piece about self-care and self-awareness, and how we can all take care of each other at a challenging time. For example, you might recognize here common emotional reactions to a crisis, tips for routines to manage stress, and how to cope with social media overload.

Publishing Weekly Plan Link (and any other google links) with Parents
As you are all aware, we have created one weekly Continuity of Instruction plan per grade level if we need to use it. Homeroom teachers will publish the doc, then the link to this weekly plan will be shared by each homeroom teacher via Seesaw. All teachers are individually responsible for ensuring their lesson description or links are entered into the daily schedules.
Don’t know how to publish a doc? Watch this presentation to learn how to publish and get the link to share with parents to ensure access to any parent outside of AISC is enabled
Why publish instead of share?
  1. You can’t accidentally give edit access
  2. You can’t accidentally limit access
  3. Even parents who don’t use Google Docs will be able to link to the doc
  4. It is live, so all changes made will show up for parents
