Dear all,

Happy weekend! Lots of positivity in the air (along with pollutants) this week. We appreciate it! Keep it coming. This week’s tinyPulse question ‘how much positivity do you put into the system?’ is a good reminder for us all to reach out and share positive words and thoughts.

Thank you’s and Shout Outs
  • Clinton - For holding fort at the discovery lab during Jen's absence, assisting grade 2 students with their identity projects, helping trouble-shoot for teachers and generally being a cheerful colleague.
  • A big shout out to Grade 3 for putting on an incredible PSA event. Students and parents were highly engaged.  Thank you also to Hilary and Priya V for supporting G3 students and teachers to make this event happen!
  • Amritha, Melissa & Chaitanya - for going out of their way to assist students with their Identity projects in Grade 2.
  • Fer - for being a rockstar team leader! Team Gr 2

Air Quality Considerations and Practices at AISC
Thank you also for bearing with this week of unusually poor air quality. Unfortunately, at this point, it is not forecasted to look much better next week. Shared below are the guidelines we will be consulting should this air pollution continue.
  • We use the air quality data sourced from a variety of sources that are publicly available online.  AISC is currently in the process of acquiring our own monitors for use on campus.
  • School administrators will communicate to the faculty and students any need for modification of outdoor physical activity, keeping in mind both the AQI (Air Quality Index) and the multiple other factors influencing the health and well-being of students.
  • If necessary, the PE and Athletics Departments will modify activities in order to keep heart-rates and respiration-rates low, while still providing instruction and movement opportunities for our students. Any activity will be short in duration and of minimal physical demand.
  • Parents always have the right to request that their child(ren) does/do not participate in aerobic activity, or go outside for recess or classes, and under such circumstances, students will never be penalized for non-participation;
  • Students exhibiting or complaining of shortness of breath or irritation in the throat are routinely sent into a building with conditioned air until they feel relief.
The guidelines we use to determine if outdoor physical activity will be modified are as follows:

Vision Projects Duty Schedule
Next week is the first ever ES Vision Week! Huge congratulations to Mary Kelly, Jack, Calley and all VP leaders and teachers for creating what surely will be fabulous memories for our Grade 3-5 students. To support our Vision Projects, we will be using THIS recess duty schedule so we are asking KG-G2 teachers and TAs to carry out an extra duty. This will release vision project teachers as the week does not have free periods built in. This favour will be repaid at a later time in the year.

If you have any questions or concerns upon reading the schedule, please reach out to Calley.

ES Vision of a Learner Recognitions
To continue to highlight our Vision of a Learner profile and socialise these attributes further in our section, we will be recognising students who have consistently demonstrated  one of the traits from this profile.

If you have recognised a student displaying these attributes, please  click here to add names. Anyone can add to this, specialists, homeroom teachers or teacher assistants.
**If you see a student’s name listed and you also support this nomination, please add your name too.

Missoula Schedule Draft
As part of our vision week, Missoula Children’s Theatre is the project that expands to also include Grade 1 & 2 students. Missoula rehearsal blocks can be found here. This will make greater sense to Grade 1 & 2  teachers after the audition on monday and when children are assigned their parts.

Arts, Sports and Activities
Important information for Homeroom Teachers: Here is the list of students in your classes that are enrolled in ASA programs for Season 2:
ES ASA Season 2 Class Lists   - November 11 - February 23

After the first week of ASA’s, please allow grade 3-5 students to travel to their ASA areas more independently. The locations are also listed on the sheet with the list of students. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
