Dear all,

Rain. We need it, and yet, yes along with this it brings some inconveniences with indoor recess. Thank you for your patience with this and an even bigger THANK YOU to everyone who got into the Halloween spirit and dressed up this week! So fun!

Thank you’s and Shout Outs
  • Joseph for Halloween makeup for the leadership team and many other teachers!
  • Grade 4 would like to thank Joseph and Usha for helping to transform us into magical unicorns.

VISION WEEK FOR G3-5!
Faculty meeting will be time to work on projects (vision or phonics work)

Indoor Recess Reminder
We predict a few more of these will be happening over this upcoming quarter so please be prepared with board games, cards and other indoor activities - and by knowing when you are required on duty. A reminder that children should not be on screens during this time. Reach out to your GTL if you feel you require more supplies!

Vision Week - Monday 11 to Friday 15 November
The faculty meeting during this week will be time to work on projects (be it Vision or Phonics); we will not come together as a whole faculty; we invite grade teams or vision teams to use the time as needed for vision/phonics/documentation work.

Vision Project and Missoula Audiences
On Friday 15th:
  • EY - Grade 1 classes are invited to a dress rehearsal for Missoula 9:15 - 10:30 a.m.
  • Grade 2 - Grade 5 students will join for the final performance time [TBD approx 1:30 p.m.]
Vision for an AISC Learner/Competency-Based Education
The Vision for an AISC Learner/Competency-Based Education team thanks you for your feedback on our draft competencies. First, you can see the most recent draft post-ES/MS/HS feedback here. If you prefer, you can see the tracked changes here. Other feedback provided was considered by the committee and we decided it was more appropriate to include the ideas in specific developmental benchmarks. These will be written in the future.

Draft guidelines ‘What makes a good portfolio post?’ Update
As per the September faculty forum request,  we have been drafting guidelines for what makes a portfolio post. Dave has worked on this with EY-Grade 2 faculty, and this will be shared on Monday with the grade team leaders.  Following this it will be shared with all for input following this.

Faculty Community Forum Outcomes
We had an excellent attendance at the faculty community forum with some great discussion about how we might strategize to help each other to feel less overwhelmed during challenging times. You can see our notes here. The next step is for the ES leadership team to consider these suggestions and look at what might work - we might be reaching back out to some of you for clarification or further input.
One suggestion is for this faculty blog to come out by morning recess - you’ll see that this happened from today!

So far, we are thrilled  with the participation and the spirit of positivity and camaraderie that the FCF meetings are engendering. Please consider coming to one to share your perspective, as well as hear others’ perspectives. We are better together!

Looking well ahead to our end of Semester 1: Report card timeline
Please find below the timeline for writing our Semester 1 report cards. These will be printed as per other report cards this year, so proofreading remains an ongoing focus to ensure these are error-free going home. Therefore, everyone, please ensure to familiarise yourself with the style guide and proofreading process. You will also find the proofreading assignments at the bottom of the style guide.

This time around, please remember our proofing process from last year. Each homeroom teacher has been assigned a colleague proofer. This is due to the volume of reports being much higher and the challenge of making an equitable distribution. Secondly, we’d added to the reporting process to ask that teachers check their own character count before sending to proof reader (500-800 characters per comment). First round proofers will also check, but it will go much more smoothly if we check our own.

One streamlining suggestion is once you’ve written the first comment and know this is between 500-800, count the number of lines in this comment and aim for near that number of lines for all others.

As you work on your comments, you may want to sign up for a free account with Grammarly. It takes only a moment to sign up and the service will automatically check your spelling and basic grammar as you write your comments. This may save you, and your proofreader, some time and energy.
