Dear all,
This has been a bustling week full of engagement and learning: about the principal candidates, math in the classrooms, outside the classroom for grade 5, and even celebrating our learning for grades 1 and 2. Next week, we’ll continue with our math mornings and wind up with India Week before we blast off to Fall Break. Thank you for all you’re doing this week and next week to be flexible while providing our students and families with rich opportunities.
Thank yous and shout outs
- Thank you to all of the Grade 5 teachers as well as John Sandman, Linda, Alex and Jack for supporting CWW this week!
- Thank you to Calley and the Grade 3 & 4 teachers for kicking off our Math Mornings this week. A number of parents turned out to hear about our math curriculum and see it in action.
- A big thank you to Sheema and Mohan and for helping out in other classrooms this week while the Grade 5 students were away. From Melissa: Thank you for working so hard on making materials that will positively impact student success.
- Finally, thank you again to all of the ES Principal Search Committee members (Amy, Alex, Amritha, Fer, Jack, Jen, Kristina, Mary Kelly, Melissa and Vanessa Kim) for all of the planning and time you put into the search process as well as making the principal candidates’ visit earlier this week so successful.
Hey Green Thumbs: Community Garden Getting Started Soon!
John Merletti will be heading up the Community Garden initiative this year. He will take the lead with our gardener, Priya. You can expect the garden to start up after Fall Break, and a sign-up sheet with details to come out in our next faculty notes. Get your hands dirty!
India Month Rehearsals and Run-Through (repeat announcement)
The FAC rehearsals for the India Month performances spans between September 16 - September 25. All the performances will have 2 - 3 rehearsals. Please note, on September 25th (Wednesday), we will have a final run-through of both the assemblies. As scheduled for the main event, we will wrap up in 45 minutes (less than 45 minutes in this case, as there will be no lighting of Diya and the Teachers dance).
Upper Elementary- 9:05 - 9:45 a.m
Lower Elementary- 10:55 - 11:35 a.m
During this run-through time, we will familiarise our students with our expectations at the FAC with their specific grade-wise entry, seating, waiting backstage, performance and exit. Our student MCs' will also get a chance to practice their respective parts with the flow of the events. I will also communicate the specific instructions for lights, sound, curtain cues and usage of risers for every performance to the theatre manager.
So we will be ready for our India Month Assemblies on September 26th and 27th!
During these times, the students must be accompanied by a teacher (HR/EAL/Specialist) AND by the Teaching Assistant. Here is the link for the specific rehearsal and run-through timings.

Progress Reports (repeat announcements)
These report cards will communicate progress around our learning habits as well as one Personal/Social/Emotional (PSE) narrative comment. This comment should focus on transitions to the new grade/class/school, relationships formed, learning habits and choices being made and as much as possible use the language from the AISC Vision of a learner.
