Virtual Specialist Schedule

After talking with our team leaders this week and not knowing how long we will remain in virtual learning, we have decided to stay with the current virtual specialist schedule rather than switch over to the semester 2 virtual specialist schedule on Tuesday. We will make the switch to the semester 2 schedule (on campus and virtual), when we return back to campus.

Coaching this Semester

Due to some shifts in staffing for the second semester, there will be a change to our coaching program availability. Both Elliot and Alex have taken on new/different responsibilities in the ES to ensure that we are providing the best possible educational experience for all classes and students.

Elliot will not be holding math meetings with teams for the second semester or taking on any coaching cycles with teachers, but please feel free to reach out to him with any questions and he will do his best to support you. Teams are encouraged to still meet to look at math data together using the data protocol and align around instructional strategies for subjects when appropriate.

Alex will be able to meet with teams to support literacy units. Team leads should reach out to Alex to schedule those meetings. You may also continue to connect with Alex for individual literacy support, and he will do his best to support you.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to ensure that we are keeping our students at the center of our work.

Student Names on Zoom

HRTs - Can you please have students display their name on Zoom (or change it for the students). This will help everyone learn new student’s names (teachers and peers) and it is a security precaution so you know who you’re letting in from the waiting room.

Professional Development Update

The summer 2022 AERO Institutes will be hosted by the US Government Office of Overseas Schools from June 19 - 24 in Arlington, Virginia in the areas of K-5 Math, 6 - 10 Math, English/Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and World Language. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the AERO Standards (and their alignment with other relevant frameworks like NGSS, ACTFL, etc.) with an emphasis on identifying and supporting critical elements in each subject area. In addition, there will be an institute focussed on academic leaders (eg: HODs, GTLs, Curriculum Coordinators, Coaches, Associate Principals, Principals, etc.) to support the adoption of a standards-based learning system which will include a deep dive into the "why?", assessments, professional training, impact on student learning and communicating vision. As this program is sponsored by the Office of Overseas Schools, there is no registration fee. Priority is given to teaching teams and the deadline for application is March 4th. Please contact Joelle Basnight if you are interested in applying or learning more.

Further, the summer schedules for PTC, CTC, TLI and EAL programs have been released. As a member school, registration opened on January 10th. There are both in-person and virtual options.

Have a safe and healthy long weekend.

Lynn and Dave
