Dear all,

Great week with responsive classroom, robotics, futures planning, our first early release, and also beginning MAP testing. This weekend we host the Big Bad Blue - many ES swimmers, so pop by to cheer them on if you can! Don’t forget to come to school in your pyjamas on Monday - feel free to post a reminder to Edmodo so your class doesn’t forget either :) Newbie Twobie is tonight - what a great newbie handover tradition!

Specialist & Homeroom Collaboration in Communication
At our last GTL meeting, some questions surfaced about whether or not Specialist teachers ought to be contacting parents. We’d like to clarify that ALL teachers are encouraged to communicate to parents as needed. It’s essential, however, that homeroom teachers be consulted when troubleshooting any challenging student behaviors. Wondering how to begin the conversation?  Here’s an email template (or conversation guide) that specialist teachers can use to get the best information from homeroom teachers.

Math Mornings - Coming up!
Just a reminder that Grades 1 - 4 have their math mornings coming up in the last week of September.  Teams can work with Calley to prepare for a fun morning of math learning.  Exact timing to be confirmed next week.
Grade 1:  Sept 24
Grade 2:  Sept 25
Grade 3:  Sept 26
Grade 4:  Sept 26
Grade 5:  Oct 10
EY5:  TBD in Nov

Dan shared this with the leadership team this week with the focus question,  “How can helping others to have comfort with ambiguity, benefit AISC, specifically in the areas of Q01 "Know What's Expected"?  It is a easy-to-digest read, and a worthy reminder that some people find ambiguity anxiety-inducing, while others find it energy-giving.  How do you manage ambiguity?

Repeat Reminder:

LGBTQI Rights:  Big news from India
As Nigel shared at our Child Protection meeting on Wednesday, AISC has a commitment to protecting and meeting the needs of all children, and especially looking towards the emotional and social safety needs of LGTBQI students.

In a landmark ruling for equality, the Supreme Court of India has struck down an British-era law that made homosexuality illegal in practice.  Many people flocked to the streets to celebrate what is, for some, a deeply emotional acknowledgement of human rights and dignity.  Read more about the history and the news here.
