Dear Faculty,

Happy long weekend!  Enjoy your extra day this coming Monday and see you all next Tuesday.

Thank yous….
  • Donna, Velin and the wonderful lifeguards for organising the swim gala this morning
  • Jack, Jane and Sobha for teaching through the swim gala - parents were impressed!
  • Alex, Amy, Vanessa, Sarah and Jack for working hard to be able to present a first draft of next year’s schedule
MAP Testing
MAP testing begins next week so please spend a few minutes making sure you have your login information and reviewing the start-up procedures prior to your first test; all of the resources are linked below.

IT staff will be on hand with extra devices and troubleshooting assistance every testing day by 8:45. If you plan to test later in the day, please let Lori and Priya know.

Remember that you can monitor which question number students are on and can offer encouragement to either ‘slow down and do your best’ or ‘make your best guess and move on’ if students are moving particularly quickly or slowly.

Next Week’s Discovery Studio Challenges
Challenge Blocks - Students will be participating in a challenge called the Egg Drop. Students will need to create some sort of covering to protect a raw egg from breaking after a fall from the 3rd floor stairwell. Two 45 minutes blocks will be needed to complete this challenge.

Recess Challenge - Students will be given the task of creating fantasy shoes out of newspaper. Students may come as many times as they wish over the next 2 weeks at lunch recess.

TCRWP Office Hours with Lucy Calkins
TCRWP has recently offered two live sessions for teachers to speak directly to Lucy Calkins. You can listen to the recorded sessions using the links below. Many questions are asked on a variety of different topics during the sessions.

Below you will find digital links to each of the sessions and a few highlights covered in each session.

·  Phonics

Student Protection Update - from Nigel
In next year’s Student Protection Manual we will be including specific guidelines to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer (LGBTIQ) students. These guidelines are based on best practice and were put together to foster an inclusive climate in which some of the most vulnerable students in our school can feel safe and valued.

As was shared in the Head’s Notes in December, worldwide data collated by UNESCO in 2016 indicates that students who are perceived not to conform to prevailing sexual and gender norms, including those who are LGBTIQ are more vulnerable to discrimination, harassment and/or bullying in school.

During next year’s student protection training we will spend some time talking about how we can ensure that we create a supportive environment for LGBTIQ students. Having a supportive environment for LGBTIQ students in line with one of the core values at our school that “each person has intrinsic value, worthy of dignity and respect.”
If you have any thoughts, concerns or queries about the guidelines get in touch with Nigel.

Happy weekend everyone!

Keryn & Lori
